Best Fishing Knot

You know when you've graduated from the amateur fisherman to the serious fisherman when you're ready to learn how to make a better fishing knot.

Let me guess, you basically tie a knot like you're tying you shoe without the looping laces? Just over and under, then over then under until it's a big fat knot, right? Well, that's not going to hold up to any lunker bass. Those types of knots simply breakdown and unravel in the water or they just snap from all the folds created in the line within the knot.
What you need is called the hangman's knot. It's called the hangman's knot because, well, it's like a hangman's knot, it's just the fishing line is the rope.

This knot works the best because the tighter you pull on the line, the tighter the knot becomes. If done correctly, the knot certainly won't be a break point in the line when you have the monster bass heading toward the bottom of the lake with your lure.

Here's how you create a hangman's knot...

1) Put the line through the eyehole on the lure

2) Take the line from one side of the lure and create a loop with it and then wrap the 2 lines while feeding it into the loop. See step #2 in diagram.

3) Grab the end of the line on the other side and gently pull the lure down

The more you pull the lure the tighter the line will get. Be careful, however, you could end up pulling to hard and get cut on the line.

This is the exact same know I’ve been using for well over 20 years fishing for monster bass and pike in northern Michigan. I’ve seen steel leaders snap in half while this knot refused to give. It’s a powerful and compact knot.

Happy fishing!
