Bass Fishing in the Rain

A lot of hardcore anglers don’t like to let a little rain get in the way for fishing for some lunker bass. I have to admit, I’ve depended on my trusty old raincoat and hat on more than one occasion. In fact, I’ve done it enough to know a good tip on just how to fish to catch a heck of a lot of bass in the rain.

Before we get to the tip, let me just say, always play it safe. Don’t go sitting in any metal boat in the rain and lighting. That’s a quick way to increase your odds of getting zapped by Mother Nature, if you know what I mean – that is, getting hit by lightning.

Now, let me tell you that rain carries oxygen to the lake. Bass thrive on this oxygen burst and become extremely aggressive during rains or just after a rain. You’ve probably seen bass jumping in the rain before, right? Well, that’s because they’re high on oxygen and ready to make an attack on food.

When bass have energy, they got to the surface looking for top water prey. This is a really good time for you to whip out that top water lure. A Zara Spook or any torpedo action top water lure will do the trick.

Believe me, I’ve had instance after a rain where 5 bass jumped out of the water after my top water lure on one cast. Be sure to keep your hooks sharp as razors too, or you could end up like me and not reel any of those 5 potentials in!

Remember, always be safe when fishing. Stay away from lightning and storms. Bass are just as aggressive after a storm, so you can certainly wait for it to blow over before you grab your fishing rod and head to the water.
