Bass Fishing in the Rain

Just about every lake has a good weedline. It’s just a matter of finding it. It may take a while to locate a good separation in weeds to open water, but the search will be well worth it in terms of catching the bigger bass.

Many times, the weed line represents the edge where the depth of the water drops off into much deeper levels. There are still weeds down there in the deeper levels, they’re just much deeper so you cannot see them from the surface.

Lunker bass like to hang out on the edge of the weedline – just before the drop off. That way when the smaller fish that are swimming across the lower lake bed climb up on the weedline drop off, the bass can snatch them up with very little effort.

The trick is to make the bass think your lure is one of those fish swimming across the lake floor and making their way up to the weed line. This isn’t very hard to do. Actually, all you really need to do is slowly troll the weedline with your favorite plastic worm. As you move forward, gently tug your fishing pole up and down. The effect is the same as the live bait swimming up the weedline drop off.

Some of my biggest bass have been caught using this very method. It’s kind of funny to see the fisherman in tournaments all head straight to the weedline.

Give it a try and see for yourself.
